Glen Island Park - New Rochelle
This 105-acre island property is connected to New Rochelle by a drawbridge built in the 1920s. After Playland, Glen Island is the second most widely used park in the County Parks system. One of Westchester’s unique jewels, it was initially developed as a summer resort by John H. Starin. The original design exhibited the five cultures of the western world on individual islands linked together with piers and causeways. Today the islands have been merged with substantial fill areas totaling 130 acres and providing a beautiful crescent shaped beach with access to the Long Island Sound.
Glen Island Park also offers picnic pavilions, reservable and open picnic areas, boat launching, pathways, a catering hall and a restaurant.
Open: 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (final entry 6 p.m.) daily, July 3 through Labor Day, September 6, for Westchester residents
Fees: $5 parking with Parks Pass, $10 without; weekends only after Labor Day.
Rye Town Park & Beach - Town of Rye
This 63 acre area serves as a popular spot to come experience some fun and relaxation at the historically known spot overlooking the Long Island Sound. Located next to Rye Playland, a sprawling amusement park and close to downtown Rye with its eclectic shops and restaurants, it’s the perfect NY weekend getaway or day trip if you’re local.
Open: 10 a.m.–6:30 p.m. Sat, Sun, and holidays
Fees: $10 parking without a Parks Pass
Playland Beach - Rye
Playland Beach is immediately adjacent to Rye Town Park & Beach. Between the beach, the pool, and Playland park itself, you could easily spend all day at this Westchester institution. There’s a small admission fee to the beach for everyone over 2 years old, and you have to pay to park—but if you don’t feel like packing a chair or umbrella, you can rent one for $5 each. Also worth noting is that you don’t have to be a county resident to visit!
